Aperture was amazing and more than just enhancing the photo, you could make photo books.

Yes it could. The Photo Book feature is what was its most powerful feature. I produced a 100 page 11x13 photo book that was amazing (and costly). Coffee table quality.
The result was "fundamentally changed effectiveness of the images"!
So no Aperture, and FrameMaker (the other book creator) won't run on macs. And Pages is terrible at big docs.
At least I can create my own photo apps (via Xcode) even if for personal use.
